Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has publicized over 190 names, addresses and TIN numbers of businesses that have failed to make the Goods and Services Tax (GST) payments, in the government gazette.
MIRA has publicized names of 158 businesses for GST evasion while 35 parties that have failed to make the Tourism Good and Services Tax (TGST) have been included in the gazette.
Some prominent businesses in the tourism industry including diving centres and a resort have been detailed in the gazette for tourism tax evasion.
MIRA detailed that the names of businesses publicized in the gazette are for tax evasions for this year’s third quarter, and are from Male, Villimale, Hulhumale and Thilafushi.
As MIRA has publicized the businesses who have failed to make GST payments, many businesses have complained of the difficulties faced in making tax payments to MIRA.
To that end, one of the complaints include the failure of MIRA to provide items to record sales of businesses as stated by the Authority prior to the introduction of GST.
