Information about the tourism industry in the Maldives has been shared with the participating members of the Rio +20 summit which began in Brazil yesterday.
Held as a side from the main event, information was provided to the participants on sustainable tourism in the Maldives according to the Deputy Tourism Minister Mohamed Maleeh Jamal.
“Several participants of the summit joined the event and President Mohamed Waheed and all the members of the Maldivian delegation were also present,” Maleeh said.
He also said that President Waheed and the Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb answered questions by the media covering the event, and that further information was provided to participants on challenges facing the future of the tourism industry in the Maldives, environmental issues facing the islands and measures taken by resorts to protect the environment.
A joint video on sustainable tourism prepared by the Environment Ministry, Foreign Ministry and the Tourism Ministry was also viewed at the event.
The Rio +20 Summit is being held in Brazil 20 years after the Earth Summit was held in Rio in 1992.
