Energy Authority has said that some private electricity providers in the islands are charging rates which are higher than the approved rates.

In a press statement the Energy Authority stated that any charges for general services must be taken in accordance with the rates pre-approved by government authorities mentioned in the General Services Act.

“We have been receiving complaints that some islands are charging a higher rate than government approved rates in institutions providing education, health, justice and communication services,” Energy Authority said.

The Authority stressed that in 2011 it had announced the highest rates applicable and that the charges must be taken accordingly.
