MIRA sets terms to freeze tax evaders accounts

Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has revealed terms upon which accounts of tax evaders can be frozen.

“Freezing accounts of tax evaders and guidelines on obtaining information about tax evaders’ accounts” publicized in the government gazette by MIRA detailed that the fee, rent, Royalty or fines payable to MIRA under the tax payers’ regulation, the accounts of tax evaders can be frozen under the guidelines.

MIRA has shared details of the guidelines upon which the accounts can be frozen. The guidelines state that MIRA can freeze accounts of tax evaders 50 days after the payable date under the MIRA enforcement policy.

MIRA stated that it will inform the banks to freeze the accounts of tax evaders through the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).
