Maldives inflation rate over 16 percent in June

Statistics publicized by the Department of National Planning (DNP) show that the inflation rate of the Maldives was more than 16 percent during the month of June.

The statistics show that the inflation rate in the country stood at 16.06 percent in June. The highest contributors to the increased inflation were from fish, tobacco, hotel, restaurants and cafes.

Statistics show that the inflation rate had increased from May to June by 4.79 percent. When compared with June of last year, this year the inflation rate had increased by 11.59 percent. The costs within this period had also climbed mostly from fish, tobacco, hotel, restaurants and cafes.

Statistics show that the inflation rate as a whole for the country was at 16.19 percent this May compared to the corresponding month last year, while in April it was at 16.53 percent.

The most recent statistics show that the inflation rate in Male is at 15.94 percent. The inflation rate has been increasing on a monthly basis recently.
