Total government expenditure climbs to MVR8.4 billion

Finance Ministry has revealed that the total government expenditure has climbed to MVR8.4 billion.

The latest statistics publicized by the Ministry shows that the total government revenue as at August 30 was at MVR5.9 billion in which taxes was the primary contributor with a figure of MVR4.1 billion.

According to the statistics last month, the total government expenditure was at MVR7.6 billion at the time.

The statistics also show that the government expenditure in terms of its revenue continues to rise. As previously, the most amounts was spent on employee salary and recurrent expenses for the running of State institutions. Expenses for employees amount to MVR3.1 billion while office running costs was at MVR2.8 billion.

The Ministry's statistics revealed that the second highest contributor for the expenses were debt payments and issuing of loans which amounts to MVR1.4 billion. The budget debt of the State was at MVR2.5 billion which was at MVR2 billion at the beginning of last month.

When individual Ministries are considered, the highest amount was expended from the Finance Ministry's special budget, which amounts to MVR2.9 billion. While the Education Ministry was second with MVR1.3 billion spent from its budget.
