Discussions held on expediting criminal cases

Criminal court, Home Ministry, Prosecutor General's Office (PG) and the Police held discussions on accelerating the process of conviction, fast tracking investigations and witness protection.

Criminal Court informs that the discussions were based upon fast tracking the conviction process of assumed dangerous criminals, repeat offenders and on protecting witnesses presented to testify against such criminals. The Court also stated that the discussions were focused on ways to speed up the process within the contours of the constitution.

The Court stressed that the Police, PG’s office and the Criminal Court had agreed to extend full cooperation on such criminal cases.

In addition, the Court added that the authorities also discussed on the issue of suspects being in custody for extended periods of time without prosecution.
