Outstanding public service, special achievement awards presented to 37 individuals

Six individuals were presented with outstanding public service awards and 31 individuals with awards of recognition for outstanding service to the public by the President at a function held Sunday night. This year marks the most number of recipients since the inception of the awards in 1979.

Gasim Ibrahim, M. Maafanuvilla, was presented with the award for outstanding public service in philanthropy and Ms Habeeba Hussain Habeeb of Ma. Maandhoovilla was honored for her contribution to Dhivehi literature. Further awards were handed out to Ms Aminath Yoosuf, Gnaviyani Naifaru Chandharuge, and Mr. Yoosuf Hussain, Baa Kendhoo Morning House, for traditional medicine, Mr. Maizan Umar Maniku, H. Shadyside, for fisheries, and Mr. Ibrahim Ismail Ali, M. Mahmaavilla, for sports.

31 individuals and 12 organizations were presented with awards of recognition for outstanding service to the public. Among them include Ali Moosa Didi, H. Navaagan, and Mohamed Shahib, H. Reethigasdhoshuge, for their contribution to Dhivehi language, Ameen Ibrahim, H. Haali, and Hassan Shakir Mohammed, H, Hudhufinifenmaage, for Dhivehi oratory, and Aishath Naseema, H. Pink Star, Mariyam Moosa, Ma. Kaamiyabuge, for their contribution to Dhivehi story writing.

Other fields where outstanding achievement was recognized include language and literature, oratory skills, education, tutoring the recitation of the Holy Quran, health, fisheries, agriculture, tourism, export promotion, social service and community work, empowerment of women, tailoring, craftsmanship, construction, information technology, carpentry and boat-building, painting, sports, singing, music production, acting, culinary skills and cake decoration.
