Beer kegs discovered near Customs warehouse

A Police official said that the kegs had been discovered last week and they two of the 30-litre kegs were believed to contain beer while five other Tiger brand kegs were empty. Another 30-litre keg was recovered from the sea near the area, the official said.
Police said that they had found the kegs while investigating a report received by some Police officers working at the Airport. The kegs were found near the Hulhulé Jetty area and in front of the Customs’ alcohol warehouse.
The Police recently began a series of special operations to curb the smuggling of alcohol into Malé and decrease the number of crimes committed while under the influence of alcohol. During last week, Police confiscated more than 10 cases of alcohol from three different areas in Malé. Eight men had been arrested in connection to the incident so far, Police said.
