Government signs MoU with CAASSA

The MoU states that the Government of Maldives and a British company will apply for a grant from CAASSA to part-finance the development of a research and development facility to develop telecom services using stratospheric airship technology. It is a grant worth 40 million pounds. CAASA also have the capacity to produce solar energy of up to 60% of Maldives’ current consumption and will seek to start producing it within 30 months of the start of the project. As this is a very new technology, the government hopes that it will help promote science and technology in the Maldives.
During his visit to the United Kingdom, Vice President Dr Waheed met with Maldivian students studying in the UK and inquired about their well-being.
After concluding his visit to the UK, Dr Waheed departed for Geneva last night. His visit to Geneva is at the invitation of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The Government of Maldives has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Commonwealth and Asean Stratospheric Space Agency (CAASA). The MoU was signed during Vice President Dr Waheed’s meeting with the Secretary General of CAASA, Dr Klive Kinder.
