A boat was severely damaged after it keeled over en route to Male’ from Thilafushi on Thursday.

‘Dhoshi 3’ Captain Mohamed Sinaan said that the boat was carrying 300 sacks of cement when they had hit a blizzard near Gulhee reef area around 2:30 in the afternoon.

“When we hit the blizzard, the ropes that was binding the cement sacks snapped and the sacks slid over to one side of the boat,” said Sinaan. “So the boat turned over after it tilted to one side.”

He also added that apart from boat wheelhouse being thoroughly damaged, the boat had several other extensive damages to it but that no one on board was injured.

Boat owner, Adam Naseer said that repairing cost of the boat is estimated to be worth more than Rf100,000.

Another boat belonging to Naseer was used to help transport ‘Dhoshi 3’ from the area.

MNDF said that they had received no reports of any boats keeling over near Male’ on Thursday.
