MoreMan fined for pornographic materials

Maldives criminal court on Sunday fined a man with over US$ 3,000 (Mrf 50,000) for possessing pornographic materials.
He was charged and sentenced under the things prohibited to imports to the Maldives act 13(e). Under the law, producing pornographic materials in the country is also recognised.
Police discovered pornographic materials from the room of Mohamed Shaman Latheef of H.Philadelphia room on 26 June 2009 after receiving a report that he threatened the girl through internet saying her pornographic images will be publicised.
Police discovered nearly 1000 images and videos of local girls which were saved in two multimedia cards, three hard disks, and two pen drives.
The court verdict also said to pay the sum US$ 3,891 within 30 days.
The law gives authority to the judge to either fine, or sentence for a period 3 months to 3 years for jail, house arrest or banishment.
