A man waiting outside the labour room at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital flew into a rage and charged feet-first into the glass door of the room, shattering the pane of glass. The incident occurred last Saturday and according to eyewitnesses at the scene, the man became angry when he couldn’t get any information about the condition of wife who was inside the labour room at the time.

A Police Media Official said that the man was immediately taken into custody, interrogated and then released. Although the man had taken a running jump and shattered the glass door with a well-aimed kick, neither he nor anyone else was injured in the incident, the Media Official said.

The Police officers who had taken the man into custody were the officers who were posted at the Hospital.

Haveeru was unable to get any comment from the Hospital regarding the incident. An official from the Hospital told Haveeru on condition of anonymity that the man had become angry when he was unable to any information about his wife who was inside the labour room. The official said that the man had gone to buy some medicines and after handing over the medicines to a nurse who was inside the labour room had asked what his wife’s condition was. However, the nurse had closed the door without a word causing the husband to fly into a fit of rage, the official said.

“He was so angry he just ran towards the door and jump kicked the glass door, shattering it,” the hospital official said.
