A press release issued by the Ministry on Monday cautioned people against bringing the vaccine to Maldives and vaccinating themselves, and instead encouraged people to go abroad to a country where the vaccine was available to get vaccinated as it was very important to ensure proper care during vaccination.
“The quality of the vaccine being brought by private parties to Maldives can only be assured after it has been registered with the Food and Drug Authority,” the press release said. The press release further cautioned those who were purchasing their own swine flu vaccine from abroad to take proper care in the handling and use of the vaccine and to be aware of the hazards if the proper precautions were not taken.
Those who visit countries that have the H1N1 vaccine have the opportunity to get vaccinated there or purchase the vaccine.
The Health Ministry had earlier said that since the capability to mass produce the H1N1 vaccine was very limited, it was unlikely that Maldives would be getting the vaccine any time soon.
