State Minister for Mid-south Province, which groups Thaa and Laamu atolls Ahmed Mujtaba said on Monday, Farhath, who was also the former Noonu Atoll chief in the former administration, has “never attended” the office.
He was appointed to the post about three months ago.
While the government appointed Farhath as Deputy Minister, two cases of alleged corruption against him, submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission in late 2008, were pending at the Prosecutor General’s office.
“He was transferred to this province as problems occurred earlier, when he was the Deputy Minister for Mid-North Province,” Mujtaba said.
“Since he was transferred to this office, he has disappeared. We do not know where he is. His phone is also disconnected. We did not pay his salary, as he was not attending the office. We have requested the President to replace him.”
Farhath, who was unavailable for comment, was involved in founding the opposition People’s Alliance (PA). He also contested for the Alifu Dhaalu atoll Mahibadhoo constituency in the parliamentary elections, but later withdrew his candidacy.
