MALE, July 10, 2010 (HNS) – The US$5 million National Museum funded by the Chinese government was officially delivered to Maldives Saturday.
In a function held at Foreign Ministry Chinese Embassy In-Charge Han Tao and Additional Secretary at the ministry Dr Hussein Niyaz signed the agreement.
Speaking at the function, Tao said the Rf64.2 million museum resembled the strong friendship between China and Maldives.
According to the ministry, the museum comprising of two buildings will be officially opened on the Maldives Independence Day which falls on July 26.
Niyaz said the first building, housing an exhibition hall, conference room and an administrative unit, would host local and international historical exhibitions. Historical items would be preserved in the second building, where a conservation laboratory and research institute would be set up, he added.
