MALE, June 9, 2010 (HNS) – All Youth Linkage (AYL) managed to get its first point in the ongoing Dhiraagu Dhivehi League with a 0-0 draw against Viyansa Monday evening.

Although the two teams showed equal performance, Viyansa went close in the 29th minute as Ibrahim ‘Bell’ Shiyad found a loose ball inside the penalty area but his shot targeted the post. In the 33rd minute, AYL’s Ivory Coast striker Kareem Korney Area got an excellent chance to score, but Viyansa Keeper Hassan ‘Timo’ Rameez saved the shot at the open goal.

In the first minute of the second half, Shiyad received another opportunity but his attempt to beat the off positioned keeper ended in vain, as an AYL defender on the goal line blocked the shot. AYL Keeper Ahmed Fairooz saved another attempt by Viyansa’s Ibrahim Hameesh in the 81st minute of the game. The two teams received excellent chances in the last minutes of the games. The shot by AYL’s Kareem in the 88th minute went off the pitch, and another shot by Abdulla Muaz of Viyansa in the last minute went over the goal post.

While Viyansa is at the third place of the table with 15 points, AYL is still at the bottom with only one point.

Speaking after the match, AYL Coach Ahmed ‘Fesco’ Mujuthaba expressed his satisfaction over the one point and commended the players and the technical team.

“I congratulate the players and the technical team’s efforts. The performance was not that bad. I must say that we deserve three points considering the chances we got in the game,” he said.

He noted that this was a new beginning and said that this year’s team is different from last year’s.

“Seven players from last year have left the team. Moreover, we started practicing only 18 days prior to the league. We also faced difficulties in building a technically strong team, as we only got half of the pitch for the practice. But I will say that this is a beginning. The team will be strengthened within the break. The team’s efforts in tonight’s game were proof of its spirit,” Mujuthaba added.

Mujuthaba, however, said he was not satisfied with Kareem’s performance adding that the team will select another overseas player from the trial three players. He also revealed that VB Sports Club agreed to release AYL’s former Captain Saudullah Kamaal and another player on loan basis.

Viyansa’s Coach and player Ahmed ‘Aakey’ Naaz said his players “put their best efforts, but the team was unlucky.”

“The players performed well and put their best efforts into practice. They also secured excellent chances. But we were not lucky. We lost two very important points,” he said.
