MALE, September 06, 2010 (HNS) – Javaz Construction has warned that the company will cut off electricity and water at the temporary buildings completed under “Corel Ville Housing Project,” if payments are not received by Tuesday.
Managing Director Ibrahim Ali (Ibrahim Didi) said the project’s main contractor Kaysorn Construction must pay US$507,000 by Tuesday.
"We have called them several times. We have yet to see any signs of payment," he said.
Ibrahim said Kaysorn Construction agreed that they would inform their decision within a week.
"So if we do not receive the payments by tomorrow, they would not be able to use power, water or the buildings we constructed," he said.
Ibrahim earlier noted that the company started the works after Kaysorn approved the quotations, despite not having an agreement. While the company received US$350,000 out of over US$800,000, US$507,000 is pending, he added
An official of Kaysorn Construction said a decision was not taken because the Maldives project manager was unable to meet the CEO as he has been hospitalised since last week.
"He will probably be discharged tomorrow. So until he meets the CEO, such a sensitive matter cannot be decided,” the official said.
The official further denied the claim that Kaysorn agreed to pay in a week.
According to a press release issued by Kaysorn last week, Javaz Construction carried out more work than that was assigned under the contract at the labour campsite of Corel Ville Housing Project.
“The documents regarding the work and the master plan of the labour camp have been revealed. However, while carrying out the assigned work, Javaz Construction carried out some works beyond the given scope,” the statement said.
