Controller of Immigration Ilyas Hussein Ibrahim said deposit money collected from expatriates – worth US$11.9 million (Rf152.9 million) – has been transferred from Human Resources Ministry to Finance Ministry speeding up the deportation process.
“When we apply for the deposit to buy the air ticket to deport someone, it can only be procured after the Human Resources Ministry applies to the Finance Ministry. The person is deported within around 10 days,” he said.
“This difficulty has been eliminated after the money was transferred to the Finance Ministry,” he said.
Ilyas, however, noted that some problems still exist in deporting the workers.
“There are currently some 20 people that should be brought to Male [from the atolls]. But we cannot bring them here because ferry expenses and accommodation are not settled. But we are now trying to settle the matters through sponsors,” he said.
Human Resources Ministry earlier said expatriate workers deposited US$11,989,379.28 for return airfare.
