MALE, September 23 (HNS) – A safari travelling to Meemu atoll received serious damages after it ran aground Wednesday afternoon.
Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Lieutenant Abdullah Ali said "Hariana" with eight tourists and nine crewmen ran aground near Meemu Mulaku.
"When coast guard received the news we sent Iskandhar speed boat. However, by the time it arrived, the owner had salvaged the boat,” he said.
“We received information that 90 percent of the safari ran aground.”
Abdulla said the 70-foot safari owned by Maafannu Ever Pink Ahmed Moosa ran aground at Vashugiri reef and made a hole near its engine room. The water was pumped out and the safari was taken to Mulaku at 12am Wednesday midnight, he added.
