MALE, October 4 (HNS) – A Raa atoll Inguraidhoo boat harvesting sea cucumber ran aground, injuring three and badly damaging the boat.

“Fathis Handhuvaru” which set out from Inguraidhoo with 10 people ran aground on Shaviyani atoll Gaakurinbi reef.

Owner Mohamed Ali Manik said a man’s rib cage was injured and two others had their legs slashed when a huge wave pushed the boat on to the reef. The three are now being treated at Shaviyani atoll Komandoo hospital.

Manik noted the damage costs Rf250,000.

“While a huge part of the boat was damaged, the two engines, petrol and diesel barrels were lost. The belongings of the passengers were lost too,” he said.

The boat is now being taken to the island after patching the holes.
