MALE, April 21 (HNS) – A newscaster at the Maldives National Broadcasting Corporation’s (MNBC) Channel One, Mohamed Sodiq, has been stabbed early this morning.

Sodiq, who was attacked near the Red Wave shop on the road where Shady Cabin is located on, suffered a 2-3 inch gash on his hands.

“I was heading home after watching last night’s football match, when two persons on a motorcycle attacked me. They sped up the motorcycle and fled the area,” Sodiq said.

Sodiq was discharged from hospital after treatment.

Journalists of MNBC One and other media organisations, meanwhile, gathered outside the Police Headquarters this afternoon, voicing their concerns over the attack and demanding protection to be given to journalists.

Senior officials of MNBC One, Maldives Media Council, Maldives Journalists Association (MJA), and Maldives National Journalists Association (MNJA) also met with Commissioner of Police Ahmed Faseeh and voiced their concerns.
