MALE, April 30 (HNS) – Police, in a special operation initiated on Thursday to prevent the increasing incidence of serious crime in the Maldives, conducted raids in several locations and apprehended a number of suspects.

A police spokesperson stressed that guesthouses and houses were raided and equipment was confiscated. The suspects include a group of women, the official added.

Police, however, declined to provide details of the operation.

The Maldives Police Service and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Thursday began the operation which aims to ensure that the capital Male is made a safe and peaceful place, and those involved in crime are brought to justice.
