Increasing amount of youth are more active on social networks rather than actually getting themselves occupied with more practical activities and get actively involved in social events.
It has become more of a youthful trend to become more communally active over social networks to fight for causes, raise our concerns and getting noticed by a wider community.
Maldives being a developing nation with the larger portion of its population being youth is very much exposed to western trends. The simplicity brought to us with the advancement of technology has had a significant impact on our everyday lifestyle.
The technology today has provided us with simple solutions within the grasp of our fingertips to make life easier and enjoyable; however anyone who is health conscious would understand the need for daily exercise and healthy diets. Our daily routines have a huge impact on our lifestyle. Increasing unemployment rates is also a leading factor and a growing concern as the unemployed community needs to find suitable ways to spend their leisure time.
The Household Income and Expenditure Survey (HIES) report published by the Department of National Planning (DNP) earlier this year indicated that the unemployment rate is at 28 percent, however there has been little effort put in by the relevant authorities in dealing with the matter.
The report not only states out a clear figure for unemployment rates in the country after its nationwide survey done with long late hours put in to gathering, compiling and processing the data obtained from all around Maldives, it also indicates the causes of unemployment within our community.
Relevant authorities need to address the issue as it is of serious concern. The growing needs for job opportunities need to be met. Politician and law makers need to device action plans to cater for the increase in demand. Each and every year the huge amount of school leavers add up to the existing issue of lack of job opportunities.
While some of these school leavers who achieve high grades are awarded opportunities to go to further studies, the government and private sector had so far failed to bring on board the under average students and train them for the job atmosphere. The government has already initiated a number of vocational education programs, however these programs had only been held at a very small scale.
Each job seeker may not have the same qualities, yet every person has a different approach towards the task at hand. Employers need to be well equipped with varieties of job opportunities to cater for a wide range of job seekers. The keen, the interested, the attentive, the bold, the indolent, the procrastinating, and even people of other attitudes need to have their opportunity to show the community that they can be beneficial to our society in their separate ways.
“I always choose a lazy person to do a difficult job, because he will find an easy way to do it” -Bill Gates-
