Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA) operator GMR, India's head and the company's board members are set to visit the Maldives on Thursday.
At a time when the parties in the coalition government have stepped up efforts to reclaim the airport from GMR, Haveeru has learned that the head of the company G M Rao, board members along with the legal team is scheduled to arrive in the Maldives on Thursday morning.
When asked of the visit, GMR's CEO Andrew Harrison said that the company's business review would be carried out during this week. Without disclosing details, Harrison added that prominent members of the company are scheduled to visit the Maldives for the review.
While the GMR issue has become quite tense among political leaders, President Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has stressed that it would be extremely difficult for the State to sustain the agreement with GMR. However, he highlighted that annulling the agreement would carry a heavy financial burden on the State which in his eyes would take a heavy toll on the government given the current economic state of the Maldives.
