Police seek more evidence in Najeeb's murder case

Maldives Police Service have revealed that efforts were underway to find more evidence in the murder case of prominent lawyer Ahmed 'Carrot' Najeeb who was found brutally stabbed to death on Sunday night.

Police media official added that police were combing Maafannu Masroora where Najeeb’s body was discovered in order to reinforce the evidence that had already been presented in the murder trial.

“The house is still under police charge. We are still searching for more evidence related to the case,” media official added.

Ahmed Murrath, 29 of Masroora and his live-in girlfriend Fathimath Hana, 18 of Shaviyani Atoll Goidhoo Rihaab have been charged with the murder of Najeeb.

While Murrath has confessed to the murder charges, Hana has only admitted to being accessory to the murder. She has stressed that her only involvement in the crime is to tie the victim to a chair with duct tape.

During the trial it has been revealed that Najeeb was stabbed to death sometime early Saturday night, while his body had been discovered inside a large garbage can on Sunday night.
