Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) yesterday formed two committees to probe and follow the charges against former President and MDP presidential candidate Mohamed Nasheed over the arrest and detention of Chief Judge of the Criminal Court Abdulla Mohamed.
The two committees comprising a total of eight members were formed at the party’s national steering committee meeting held yesterday. One committee has been mandated to probe the legal aspects of the charges against Nasheed while the other would follow the remaining sides.
A MDP national congress sit-down has been scheduled for tonight to decide on a course of action by the party over the charges filed against the former President.
Though Nasheed had stressed that he was ready to face the charges filed against him, MDP’s Parliamentary Group has called on the Prosecutor General (PG) to withdraw the charges against him.
