The parliament yesterday passed the health insurance bill, pre-school bill and national archive bill.

In yesterday's sitting, 72 members unanimously voted in favour of the health insurance bill submitted by Nolhivaram MP Mohamed 'Colonel' Nasheed.

The bill, which was passed with more than 90 amendments, requires the government to begin providing health insurance to all Maldivians next year and includes policies on providing the insurance.

The pre-school bill submitted by Meedhoo MP Ahmed Siyam Mohamed was passed with the votes of 71 members.

MPs noted that the bill would improve the quality of education offered by the pre-schools in the country.

The parliament also endorsed Manadhoo MP Mohamed Thoriq’s archive bill as 66 MPs voted in favour of it.
