Maldivian Air Taxi flight has crashed whilst trying to land on the water runway in Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA).
INIA operator GMR confirmed that seaplane crashed whilst landing on the water runway on the eastern side of Hulhule’ Island’s seaplane lagoon.
The aircraft was carrying 9 passengers and 3 crew and remained upright and floating.
They further stated all passengers and crew were rescued and transferred to the MAT Seaplane Terminal. There were no serious injuries and medical assistance is being provided to passengers, some of whom are suffering from mild shock.
The Maldivian Civil Aviation Department has been formally notified and is on the scene. It is too early to speculate the cause of the crash. Sea plane operations are continuing on the alternative water runways, GMR added.
