MDP women protesters dispersed by water cannons

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) organized women's rally had been dispersed by using water cannons.

Police had repeatedly warned the women to leave the area before the protesters were water cannoned after they failed to heed the warnings.

Earlier this afternoon the women protesters had submitted human rights violations to the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).

Women protesters who each had a letter stating that the current government had gained power in a coup and that they were traitors.

President’s office was allowing two people at a time to submit their letters to the office while the police had dispersed the crowd. The police had cleared the area and had detained one man for disobeying orders.

RaajjeTV signal was interrupted for a few minutes during the live broadcast of today’s event, yet the cause is yet to be determined.

Police SMS stated that protesters who had broken through the police lines from Chaandhanee magu, near Reef side, gathered in front of the president’s office had been dispersed from the area.
