Man arrested from airport with 20 packets of narcotics

Police apprehended a man on Saturday from the airport with bullet sized 20 packets of suspected narcotics.

In a joint operation, drug enforcement department and the intelligence department of Maldives Police Service apprehended the person from Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA).

Seenu Hithadhoo, Farimaakoani, Hassan Azeez, 36, was taken in to police custody at around 12:30 in the afternoon as he was about to depart to Addu Atoll.

Police informed that the suspected narcotics were found on him after being searched and that the case was being investigated.

Apart from the incident, Alif Alif Atoll Himandhoo police also apprehended a 24 year old with 3 rubber packets of suspected illegal narcotics. The person was apprehended as he arrived on a launch in Himandhoo from Feridhoo of the same Atoll.

Police informed that the vessel was hired by the convict for the trip. The packets were found from his mouth. Police however did not disclose the name of the suspect.
