Police have stated that investigations have revealed that 16 year old Mohamed Arham of Haa Alif Atoll Hoarafushi, Nooreege who was found stabbed to death inside Kulliyyaa Park last Thursday, was a victim of a revenge attack following conflict between two rival gangs.
Speaking during a press conference Deputy Head of Serious and Organized Crime Department Mohamed Dawood revealed that Arham had been stabbed six times on various parts of his body with a sharp weapon. He added that Arham covered in blood lying face up was already dead when his body was discovered by police officers on patrol and rushed to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
“We believe that this attack had originated from a minor dispute between two gangs which had become personal and vengeful,” Dawood added.
He further said that it was also believed that Arham’s murder had been premeditated.
Police stressed that Arham had no criminal record, but had been found that Arham was a frequent visitor of the park and had associations with the members of the gang that hung around the park.
Dawood also revealed that the five suspects arrested in relation to the murder had previous records of assault with a deadly weapon. But the Police have not disclosed further information pertaining to the suspects thus far.
Police have urged anyone to come forward with any information with regard to Arham’s murder.
