One man from the three said that the 7 kilogram ambergris was found at around 11 am and that it was found floating in the ocean between two uninhabited islands, not far from Raa atoll Maduvvari.
“We have determined that is it is in fact an ambergris,” the man said.
Although three men had found the ambergris, four people are to profit from a potential sale.
“Four of us work on the boat, we left one aboard the boat as a guard, hence there are four shareholders,” he said.
The ambergris is now in Raa Maduvvari under the watch of the crew. It was revealed that negotiations are already ongoing with potential buyers and that the crew will arrive in Male within two days to sell the ambergris.
Meanwhile two cases relating to disputes over ambergris ownership are being tried in court and while others have attained numerous wealth after ambergris sales.
The typical price of a gram of ambergirs is MVR300, setting 7 kilograms worth around MVR2 million.
