Police have arrested a man who attempted to rob a lodging of expatriate workers impersonating a police officer.

Though Police have not disclosed the identity of the perpetrator, Haveeru has found that the man taken into custody is Shiraz Habeeb, 26 of Gnaviyani Atoll Fuvahmulah Dream Girl.

Sources indicate that Shiraz had been arrested after he entered a hotel named ‘Muneer’ posing as a police officer and tried to rob some expatriate workers yesterday afternoon.

While an attempted robbery impersonating a police officer has been foiled by police, two military and four police officers have been arrested in a similar crime of robbery of some foreign workers on June 8.

Meanwhile some MPs during the Parliament session last Tuesday had claimed that people impersonating police officers in the police uniforms stolen during the unrest and arson attacks on police stations throughout the Maldives on February 8, were discrediting the police institution by committing various crimes.
