Spokesperson for the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and Maafannu-North MP Imthiyaz 'Inthi' Fahmy has said today that former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's refusal to participate in the All Party Road Map Talks is "very sad".

In reply to former President Maumoon saying that he would not join in dialogue with former President Mohamed Nasheed at a Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) meeting held last night at Seenu atoll Hithadhoo Sharafuddeen School, Imthiyaz said that the former President’s decision is not right given the Talks are integral to the nation’s harmony.

“It won’t be good for the country to find excuses and refuse to collaborate in matters of national importance,” Imthiyaz said.

“MDP is ready to resume the All Party Road Map Talks.”

President Maumoon claimed last night that the main reason he did not want to collaborate with President Nasheed is because of the allegation Nasheed has constantly made claiming  he was the mastermind behind the ‘coup’ in the local and international media.

However prior to former President Maumoon’s statement Imthiyaz had said that MDP is willing to retract its claims that former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom had played a role in the "coup" in order to facilitate the resumption of the All Party Road Map Talks.
