Police Commissioner Abdulla Riyaz has asked Police Commanders to be mindful of the safety and security of Police personnel during protests after being subject to various attacks and violence recently.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) detailed that Riyaz had asked the Commanders to take necessary measures for potential threats during police operations to ensure the safety and security of police officers.

Commissioner further urged to identify signs of violence and unrest and take necessary steps before violence escalates in order to best avoid injuries and damages.

Police also claimed that 16 police officers had been gravely injured so far during the ongoing opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) protests.

MPS also admitted that in addition to police personnel, members of the public have also sustained varying degrees of injuries and have also caused damages to public and private property.
