Hulhumale Court today sent the case against former President Mohamed Nasheed over the arrest and subsequent detention of Chief Criminal Judge Abdulla Mohamed back to the Prosecutor General's (PG) Office.

The Court detailed that the case had been sent back as the Court had deemed that it had no jurisdiction to entertain the case.

In addition, the Hulhumale Court said that the decision had been made yesterday after assessment of the case file.

PG’s office had earlier explained that Nasheed’s case had not been forwarded to the Criminal Court as it could involve potential conflict of interest as the Court’s Chief Judge is Abdulla Mohamed.

Hulhumale Court further added that an earlier case of Judge Abdulla had been entertained after Supreme Court had ordered its acceptance, but the highest court had not taken a similar stand in relation to Nasheed’s case.
