Family of slain police officer to receive benefits

Police Commissioner Abdulla Riyaz on Tuesday said that Maldives Police Service (MPS) has decided to give the family of Lance Corporal Ahmed Haleem who was stabbed to death on his way to duty in Kaafu Atoll Kaashidhoo, the benefits and allowances stipulated by the police employment act.

In a news conference held Tuesday, he said that 60 percent of Adam’s salary is to be given a lump sum to his family. Police Commissioner said that 140 percent of his salary will be presented to his family on a monthly basis and in addition the government will pay for healthcare expenses of the family and pay for the school fees and health care of Adam’s three month old child until the age of 18.

“Apart from all that, a commemorative ceremony will be held and the police family association will initiate a fund to assist Lance Corporal Adam’s family,” Riyaz said.

He said that Adam will receive the status of a martyr, double promotion and the Presidential Medal.
