Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party's (MDP) parliamentary group have called on the creation of an independent commission to investigate the murder of Police Lance Corporal Adam Haleem of Kaafu Atoll Kaashidhoo alleging "hidden factors" in the case.
A statement issued by eight members of MDP’s parliamentary group stated that the case of Adam’s murder needs to be further investigated because while President Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik had implicated the blame on a specific party a photograph had begun to circulate on social media websites showing Adam’s murderer in the company of the Leader of the Jumhoory Party (JP) Gasim Ibrahim and Deputy Leader of JP Abdulla Jabir and also because the Police are attempting to alter the truth behind his murder.
“It was noticed that former Vice President Waheed speaking on behalf of the illegitimate December 23 coalition had tried to pin the blame on a specific party during an interview with DhiTV via phone. Along with this we feel that the case should be further investigated following the surfacing of a picture on social media networks which shows Adam’s murderer in the company of the Leader of Jumhoory Party, Gasim Ibrahim and Deputy Leader of Jumhoory Party and Kaashidhoo constituency MP Abdulla Jabir,” it read.
The statement alleged that the Police are trying to alter the truth behind Adam’s murder and condemned their attempts in the strictest of terms.
