Criminal Court has conditionally released a suspect in the stabbing murder of Ali 'Tholhi Pele' Shifan of Maafannu Fairy Corner.

The released suspect is Razzan Abdul Rahman of Kanimaage, Baa Atoll Thulhaadhoo.

Media official of the Criminal Court revealed that the suspect had been released on July 18 with conditions to remain at home between 8.00 in the evening till 6.00 in the morning, not be part of a group while outside and seek permission from the Court before traveling outside of Male.

State had appealed at the High Court following the suspect’s release. It has been found that a hearing on the case had taken place at the High Court yesterday.

Criminal Court had earlier questioned the Prosecutor general’s (PG) office over the delay in prosecuting the suspects arrested and charged for the murder of Shifan. In response, PG’s office had claimed that the delay was down to the fact that some details of the case still needed to be cleared.

Shifan had been stabbed multiple times in the back and arms by two men on a GN motor bike near West Park restaurant as he stepped out to meet a friend in April.
