Government yesterday welcomed opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) move to cease its series of anti-governmental protests in order to offer co-operation in the All Party Roadmap Talks.
In a statement by the President's Office yesterday, the Government expressed belief that consequent to the decision, MDP would also denounce the incitement of violence and harassment targeted at senior Government officials, Maldivian National Defense Force (MNDF) and Maldives Police Service.
The statement also alleged that the unproductive nature of All Party RoadmapTalks was down to MDP’s initial refusal, to sit at the discussion table for reaching a consensual agreement. However, the statement confirmed that the Government had regained its confidence in the prospect of conducting the Talks, and that a specific date for the resumption of dialogue will be decided upon discussion with the organizing body of the Talks.
The Government also called for public co-operation in creating a stable environment wherein the Talks may be held smoothly.
