Galolhu-South constituency MP Ahmed Mahloof has refuted the opposition Raajje TV report of him assaulting a pregnant woman.

Raajje TV report alleged that Mahloof had assaulted a pregnant woman riding on a motorcycle with her husband. Raajje TV also showed a video related to the incident.

In a news conference held on Monday, Mahloof said that the couple had called him a traitor and had been verbally abused while he was riding along Boduthakurufaanu magu on his motorbike last Friday night. He added that he had extended his hand towards the camera lens as they started filming him. However, he denied attacking any woman. Mahloof said that he would take legal action against Raajje TV for defamation.

“I extended my arm towards the camera lens as their camera was brought up to my face while filming me. That is the video they are showing claiming that I attacked a pregnant woman,” Mahloof said.

The Raajje TV video clip was shown to reporters during the news conference. The video clearly shows that the motorcycle in which the couple rode approached from behind Mahloof’s motorcycle. The video also shows the passenger extending an arm towards Mahloof. But the video did not contain any audio.

However the video shown on Raajje TV shows the motorcycle stopping as Mahloof extends his arm towards them. And Mahloof’s motorcycle stops a little bit in front of their bike. A woman is heard saying “he cannot touch me” in the video by Raajje TV.

Mahloof said that he had been receiving death threats with regard to the video. He further called on the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (MBC) to investigate the matter.
