Drugs consignment bound for Maldives seized in India

Indian police have arrested a man trying to smuggle a large quantity of illegal narcotics in to the Maldives.

According to the Indian Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officials, some newspapers in India reported that 40 year old Ramulu Guglot alias Ramulu was intercepted by officials from NCB Madurai, sub-zone at Kalavasal Junction opposite to Mappillai Vinayagar and Manicka Vinayagar theatres on August 18 and found 1.906 kg of heroin in the man's possession.

The intercepted 1.9 kg illegal narcotics, found to be heroin is estimated to be worth INR20 million in the illicit international market. The officials stated that Ramulu concealed the stuff in a false bottom of a trolley travel bag when the police apprehended him.

According to officials, Ramulu was taking the consignment to Tuticorin from where it was to be sent via sea to Maldives.

Officials believe that the heroin came from Rajasthan and Ramulu was taking it from Hyderabad to Tuticorin, Indian newspapers reported.
