President of the Jumhoory Party (JP) Dr Ibrahim Didi has said last night that there is no grounds to question the final report of the Commission of National Inquiry (CNI); established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the transfer of power on February 7, which is to be publicized today.
Speaking at a meeting held at the party’s office for the joining of new members from Seenu Atoll Meedhoo to the party Dr Didi said that the CNI is impartial.
“The government established the Inquiry Commission with good intentions with the help of the international community,” Dr Didi said.
Regarding the resignation of Ahmed ‘Gahaa’ Saeed, former President Mohamed Nasheed’s representative to the CNI, Dr Didi said that it shows that a member on behalf of Nasheed was not originally included in the CNI with good intentions and that Saeed had resigned because he could not spread the influence of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) amongst the members of the commission and that even though Saeed had resigned the CNI still remains active.
He alleged that MDP was trying to distort the truth behind the incidents of February 7 and that the people of the Maldives had seen for themselves what exactly happened on that day via live broadcasts and that though a representative for former President Nasheed is included in the CNI what happened cannot be change and that the CNI’s final report would be accurate.
Dr Didi who had previously served as the President of MDP said regarding the party that the influence of one single individual has destroyed democracy within the party and that the government will not allow for unrest in Male following the release of the CNI’s report.
