Former President Mohamed Nasheed has met with the British Foreign Secretary William Hague during his private visit to the country.

Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has revealed that Nasheed had conveyed to Hague the main points made in the report of the Commission of National Inquiry (CNI) and said that international assistance is needed to implement the recommendations made in the CNI report.

The party cited Foreign Secretary Hague as having assured that the UK is ready to assist the Maldives in implementing reforms and had welcomed the country’s aim to progress along the lines of democracy.

Prior to his departure to the UK Nasheed had revealed to reporters that he is scheduled to meet leaders of the UK government, private organizations and media and that he would convey the current situation of the country during his trip. He also revealed that he had been given a chance to address the Commonwealth Royal Society and meet the Secretary General of the Commonwealth as well.
