Australia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Maldives to offer assistance and aid in the field of education.
During a ceremony held at the Foreign Ministry yesterday, the MoU was signed on behalf of the Australian government by Edward Archibald, Counsellor, Development Cooperation of AusAid, while the Ministry's Permanent Secretary Hassan Shifau signed for the Maldivian government.
According to the Foreign Ministry, under the MoU teachers in the Maldives will receive training through volunteer teachers from Australia.
Speaking during the ceremony Archibald highlighted the socio-economic ties between Australia and the Maldives especially highlighting the relations established in the field of education. He added that 33 Maldivian students had been studying in Australia at the end of last year.
