Maldives Finance Minister Abdulla Jihad has stated that the government has decided to seek USD150 million (MVR2.3 billion) from the Turkish Exim bank to fund for a Hulhule-Male bridge.
Speaking to Haveeru, Jihad said that he will be leaving to Turkey on January 11, to initiate discussions over the loan with the Turkish Exim bank. Minister said that the Housing Minister Dr Mohamed Muizzu and Finance Ministry officials would accompany him on the trip.
“We are confident that the Turkish Exim bank would fund the project. We will be carrying the concept of the bridge and other relevant documents with us on this trip.” Minister said.
The Hulhule-Male bridge project had been discussed widely for the past ten years or so. The previous governments had also put forward different concepts for the project during this period.
