President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik on Tuesday urged vigilance against outside forces trying to create room for religions other than Islam in the Maldives.

In his message to the people on the occasion of the anniversary of Maldives’ adherence to Islam, President noted that the true reason Maldives has remained an independent and sovereign state was its embracement of Islam.

He also highlighted that the long existing brotherly relations among the people of Maldives symbolizes the true essence of Islam.

President Waheed also appealed to all Maldivians to work together towards strengthening the familial ties and brotherly relations among the people.

The President further said that it was important to boost the Islamic spirit in the hearts of the people and to uphold Islamic values.
