Court fines man for calling police under a false name

Criminal Court Tuesday fined man MVR1,000 after he was found guilty for prank calling the police under a false name.

Abdulla Saleem of Maafannu Goanbiligasdhoshuge who was charged `for providing false evidence was fined by the Criminal Court after being found guilty of the offence.

State had charged Saleem for calling the police claiming that an assault was transpiring in Maafannu Dhilbahaaruge, but stated that his name was Mohamed Sami when police had asked for his details.

Criminal Court ruling detailed that the statement of the accused proved that he had provided false information to the police. Hence, he was found guilty under Article 63 of the penal code and fined by MVR1,000. The Court further ordered Saleem to pay the fine to the court in no more than seven days.
