Police Integrity Commission (PIC) has stated that the report of its probe in to the Police actions on February 6, 7 and 8 will be published soon.
Deputy President of the Commission, Dr. Abdulla Waheed said that a large part of the investigation has been completed while much information has been collected from various people. He said that the circumstances surrounding the events of February 6, 7 and 8 are being investigated as two separate cases.
“We have targeted to publicize the report before the end of this month. We are quite confident that we can accomplish this by that date,” he said.
As the investigation in to police actions is being looked in to, when asked if the commission had taken any action against any officers, Waheed said that he would only comment on it after the report has been published.
The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) had earlier concluded their report in to the events of February 6, 7 and police acts against the opposition protesters on February 8, stating that the police had violated the laws and regulations.
In response to the report, Abdulla Waheed said that the commission received a copy of the three reports by HRCM last Thursday. He said that as the Eid holidays had followed the weekend, he had not been able to discuss the matter with the commission members. He added that the members will discuss the reports after government offices reopen on Sunday.
“A decision about the reports will be taken once the government (authorities) reopens” he said.
He added that he believes that any suggestions proposed to the commission will be accepted and that he believes that these suggestions need to be investigated. He said that he would follow through with task of reviewing the suggestions at the earliest.
